The Dinosaur Pen
Dinosaurs lived in a time when ancient trees stood tall and watched over the evolving world. Kauri wood, an ancient wood from 30-50,000 years ago, is found in the bogs of New Zealand, where it is believed an ancient tsunami tore the trees from the ground and buried them in the depths. The unique environment of the bogs has preserved the wood, which scientist's date to before the ice age.
Imagine these trees standing silent witness as dinosaurs steadily marched past. Did this tree witness a battle betweeen a triceratops and a tyrannosaurus? Did a dinosaur eat its leaves?
The trees themselves can live up to 2000 years and are protected by law from harvesting. However, the destroyed trees found in the bogs and pulled out after all these years can be legally sold. Kauri is considered to be the oldest useable wood on Earth.
We do offer a second pen representing the dinosaurs, the Ginkgo pen. It is one of the few trees whose origins can be directly traced to trees living in the Jurrassic period. Although this wood did not witness the dinosaurs its ancestors did.
