The Golf Pen  

     Golf is believed to have arisen in Scotland during the Middle Ages.  Golf is first mentioned in 1457, when King James II banned the game for taking too much time away from his men practicing archery.  There is some evidence that games similiar to golf were played in other countries, including a similar game in the Netherlands in 1261. 
     Golf clubs were originally made from beech, a hard wood that could withstand striking the hard wooden ball, which were also made of beech wood.  As golf balls evolved and became made out of leather and other softer materials,  persimmon wood was introduced to make the head of golf clubs. Ash and hazel wood began to be used to creat the shafts of golf clubs. In 1860, hickory wood was introduced by the United States and became the standard wood for all shafts.
     Due to the value and scarcity of these old golf clubs, we only offer pens made from old hickory shafted clubs.  We are also offerring a set of pens made from Persimmon, Hickory, Hazel, Ash and Beech.
