The Pen of King Saul 

     The Oak tree is first mentioned in Genesis and symbolizes honor and purity.

     "So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods they had and the rings in their ears, and Jacob buried them under the oak at Shechem."  (Genesis 35:4)
     "Now Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died and was buried under the oak outside Bethel.  So it was named Allon Bakuth."  (Genesis 35:8)
     "On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people, and there at Shechem he reaffirmed for them decrees and laws.  And Joshua recorded these things in the Book of the Law of God then he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak near the holy place of the Lord."  (Joshua 24:25-26)
     "They arose all the valiant men and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days."  (1 Chronicles 10:12)

     The oak tree grows tall and has a long life span. The oldest oak tree in Israel is thought to be more then 500 years old.  In Israel, it is a crime to cut down a living oak tree.  All wood for pens was legally procured from trimmings in Israel.
