     The Pen of King Solomon

The cedar tree is mentioned several times in the bible. King Solomon uses it to build the first temple.

"So he built the temple and completed it, roofing it with beams and cedar planks. And he built the side rooms all along the temple. The height of each was five cubits, and they were attached to the temple by beams of cedar." (1 Kings 6:9-10)
"So Solomon built the temple and completed it. He lined its interior walls with cedarboards, paneling them from the floor of the temple to the ceiling, and covered the floor of the temple with planks of juniper." (1 Kings 6:14-15)
"Send me cedar logs as you did for my father David when you sent him cedar to build a palace to live in." (2 Chronicles 2:3)

It is also associated with strength and righteousness.

"The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like the cedar of Lebanon." (Psalm 92:12)

Cedar is a very strong pest and rot resistant wood, coming from Lebanon where the trees can grow as tall as 120 feet. Even now, cedar is found in many buildings in Jerusalem. However, while the tree was plentiful in biblical times, it is now unfortunately very rare. Our wood is all harvested legally from Israel.
