THE PEN OF THE HOLY TABERNACLE
Acacia wood, also known as Shittim wood, is mentioned multiple times in the bible, most prominently as the wood Moses was commanded by God to use in making the Holy Tabernacle, or the Ark of the Covenant.
"And they shall make an ark of acacia wood: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof." (Exodus 25:10)
"And thou shalt make staves of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold." (Exodus 25:13)
"And thou shalt make the altar of acacia wood, five cubits long, and five cubits broad..." (Exodus 27:1)
"And he made the altar of incense of acacia wood..." (Exodus 37:25)
It is illegal in the holy land to harvest the Acacia tree, with penalties of six months in jail and a $5,000 fine. This makes the wood difficult to procure and extremely rare for making pens. However, the wood does grow in other places, most noteably Australia. Our pens are available in both an Australian variety and in an Israeli variety. The wood from Israel was legally obtained from prunings and a tree harvested by permit to make way for a road. This wood may not be available once the current supply is sold.
