The Pen of the Staff of Aaron
     
     The Almond tree is mentioned several times in the bible, most notably for being the wood of Aaron's staff.  

     "And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses went into the tent of the testimony; and behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and put forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and bore ripe almonds."  (Numbers 27:23)

    It is also symbolic, in representing the cups on the candelabra.

     "Three cups made like almond blosoms in one branch, a bulb and a flower;  and these cups made like almond blossoms in the other branch,a bulb and a flower; so for the six branches going out of the candle stick."  (Exodus 25:33)

     Almond wood is also mentioned as used by Jacob for protection against Laban, and to keep his flock white.

     "And Jacob took his rods of fresh poplar and of the almond and of the plane tree;  and peeled white streaks in them, making white appear which was in the rods."  (Genesis 30:37)
