                     The Ski Pen

Skiing most likely began around 600 BCE, in China, as a means of travelling. However, the sport of skiing did not arrive until the 1800s. Ski's began as wooden boards which an individual would strap to their feet. The polar explorer Roald Amundsen used a pair of ski's made out of hickory. Laminates are stronger then solid wood, and soon replaced the hickory skis. Ski's today are made out of composites of birch, beech, hickory, mahogany, or ash wood.
